My car does not have this option. I am soon to be installing M5 mirrors, and my M5 mirrors definitely are electrochrome :

1. What does this option do ?
2. Will it automatically work on my car ?

Thanks.

Electro-chromatic mirror glass will dim the headlights from behind. Being in the UK, you are allowed to choose your options a la carte. You need to have chosen the Auto-Dim interior and exterior mirror option to have the electro-chromatic mirror glass to work.

Members in the US whom have a 550i, the Auto-Dim interior and exterior option is part of the Premium package that is standard equipment. Electro-chromatic mirror will always work for a US 550i.

Nice response...

But I think what also wants to know is since he doesn't have the electro-chromatic option, is it going to create any problems when he installs the electro-chromatic mirrors? Will the mirrors still generally work ay night?

I wouldn't foresee any problems putting the electro-chromatic mirrors on a car without the auto-dimming option. At night the mirror will not dim.
