I'm wondering when a new DST comes into effect whether the software in the car needs to be updated so it'll adjust the time when it should.

At work I'm involved in a very big project of ensuring that when the new DST rolls in nothing will break. Everything from fax machines to building entry....

Background info, the New Zealand government announced in April (or May) this year that DST is being extended by a total of three weeks. This year DST will start two weeks early from end of Sept and finish a week later in March '08.

As far as I can recall, there is nothing in the car that needs a DST adjustment to be made (from an operating system software point of view). The only thing that you will have to do is manually change the time on the clock (easily done in I-Drive), just as you would to your clocks at home.

We just went through that this year in the USA. As far as I can rembember, MacSid is correct that there is not DST logic programmed into our cars so we basically have to adjust the clock manually.

Sometimes, simpler is better, I guess...now if Honda would get their act together and fix these things:

I'm glad to see governments on the opposite side of the globe are just as stupid as ours. All the grief and confusion we went through here resulted in NO MEASURABLE ENERGY SAVINGS.

However, there may be some some benefits. For example, now that you are saving so much extra daylight, could you export some of your surplus to me in December? I'll gladly return the favor in June.

Why don't they have the clock feature work off the gps so the time is automatic? Both my Garmin GPS and my cell phone do it this way.

Seems simple enough...

I never understood this either but keep in mind that even if the car got the time from the satellites, the DST problem would still exist since the logic for the change is stored on the car, not the satellites. (The satellites provide a universal time to all devices -- it's up to the device to correct it for time zone, etc.)
