Do you think the 2007 550i will be discounted at all?

I ask because I'm waiting to order a 2007 550i and I have been working with my dealer who is willing to give sell me a 2006 550i with a $2500 discount. But he tells me he won't discount the 2007.

I plan on getting the Sport package and comfort seats (among other things).
I understand the comfort seats are included in the 2007 sport package.

So, I if I assume the sport package remains the same price, then in 2007, the Sport package + comfort seats will be $1200 cheaper.

I still net out $1300 cheaper because I am getting a $2500 discount on the 2006 (vs no discount on 2007).

I'm also interested in the line-in for plugging an iPod into. I understand this is also included in the 2007 but is this available as an option on the 2006? How much?

Anything else significant that would justify the difference in price from 2006 vs 2007?

Thanks for your help.. Adam

The answer to this will depend on where you are located, as prices do chnage depending on the market...Where are you located?

Now the 2.5k for the 06 is not a good deal. Do a search and you will see a lot of people getting good deals from great dealers.

A good deal would be in the 4-6k off MSRP. Of course working from an invoice is always best, so ask the dealer for the invoice price, or you can get an estimate of at at kbb.com & other sites.

I think the MY07 550 will not start production until sep 06, so the question for you is are you willing to wait???

I have an 06 550 and it is solid and a ton of fun!

best of luck!

2500 isnt enough discount for a 2006 now. since 2007 will begin production in march 2006.

Not sure about price increase or change in price on the sports package... I dont think there will be a price hike on the base of the car in March but there might be a change in price on the sports package... maybe back up to $3300?

But yes March 2006 build cars will include comfort seats and include AUX input its about a $200 to $300 cost install right now if you want to install it on the 2005.

There will be some discount on the 2007s maybe $1000 but $2500 will be harder to come by. Of course your dealer will tell you NO discount for 2007 he wants to move a car NOW. Dont listen to him. But there will be less discount on the 2007s for a few months since they are "new"

Also factor in the fact that you'll be getting a 2007 car when time comes to sell... that'll be worth some money if you are selling to a buyer who doesnt know the difference between a Feb 2006 and a March 2007 Build car you can gain a thousand or two there.

I definitely cannot wait until September. I was under the impression that the lead time would still be 6-8 weeks so I figured I could order one in the next 2 weeks and then I would get it 6-8 weeks after the March production starts. Is that unreasonable?

Thanks for your help.

At this point, I'm wondering if you can even still order a MY06 550i??? Also, does your dealer have an excess of 550i's on the lot? Your best deal will be when the MY07's are the only ones available to order and their are MY06s on the lot. Chances are though, depending on the options you want you will probably have to special order it (6-10 week lead time). The longer you wait the less chance you have to make a deal on MY06 but can get a better deal on MY07. I'd go for MY07s.

You should not have to wait until September for a 2007MY 5 series, unless you're talking about an M5. Production starts in March, so you should see '07s showing up in dealerships in April. I agree that $2500 is not an enormous discount on an outgoing model year, but this depends on your location... in the SF Bay Area there is greater demand, so this may be all you get if you're here.

I think your best bet is to wait until, say, February or early March to buy an '06. Lease rates may go down on '06 models to move them in advance of the '07 model years, and like others have said, dealers will offer incentives/discounts the longer you wait. Things to note about the '07MY: 1) the aux input is in a weird place, between the rear seat heater buttons on the back side of the center console. It's a mini headphone jack, similar to the one on your ipod, so it offers no iDrive integration, no charging for the ipod, and doesn't offer the greatest sound quality. On the other hand, for '06 models you can have it added anywhere you like (typically they put it in the glovebox, which makes more sense to me) for about $200. 2) The '07 night vision is a brand new feature and will likely be pricey. I believe it includes thermal imaging cameras in the front apron -- could cost big bucks to replace if you're ever in an accident. 3) The '07 sport package could easily go up a few hundred bucks or more to cover the added comfort seats included.

Price sheets for the 2007MY should be out soon, so at least wait until then to see what happens. Me, I would save some $ and go with an '06, but wait as long as possible to make the deal so that the dealer is incented to clear out the 06ers.

That doesn't make sense. Did you transpose the numbers? Deals should get better on 06s once the 07s become a reality. Once the 06s are all gone and the 07s have been out for a while, deals can be made on the 07s, but probably not until then.

2500 off in a really hot market where rear two wheel drive cars can be used year round is pretty good. In the Southwest and west coast that is not a bad discount. In Las Vegas you hint a discount on a 550 and the dealership here will walk you out the door. The demand for the 550 is huge here in the SW. I am really enjoying my 06 550 right now and could not wait for the 07. My circumstance was I sold my daily driver much to early so I had to pull the trigger on a standing inventory car which was hard to find fully loaded in my color combo. I am glad I did it. saved about 3000 off MSRP and another 3000 in down payments and back side fees. To bad your in Florida I know good dealers here in the SW and Westcoast.
