A $50,000+ luxury automobile and you get rims that look just as good as hubcaps??? What the hell is BMW thinking? Even the 528i has better looking wheels!!
That is ridiculous!

The 535i sports wheels are nice as they are the same as on my 545i Sport.

Historically, non-sport BMWs have had awful, cheap-looking rims - I'm just not sure why - surely the non-sport owners are deserving of some nice rims. They are almost as bad as Audi A6 standard wheels, which are ugly and look 2 sizes too small.

They want to promote the OEM wheel upgrades available on BMWNA...I guess

Well, there is actually a marketing trick in this. BMW is always showing their cars (in ads and in the showroom) with the "big rims" to give a nice impression to the customers, so that they want those rims also. But because they are an option, the customer has to pay lot's of money extra to get them, which results in extra profit for BMW.
I have even read somewhere that car manufacturers make the standard rim look ugly on purpose, only to make as much customers as possible buying the more expensive rims.

Its just all about marketing in order to achieve as much profit as possible, and all car manufacturers are using this technique.

535i? Which country?

In Germany, the new standard wheels introduced this year do not look too bad. Even the most basic ones for the entry-level engines.

The design looks quite ok, but the overall dimensions of the wheels are too small in my opinion.

View the standard rims here.
