I think everyone's points about the 335 vs. M3 are probably true to some extent - and they're both marvelous beasts in their own way.

It just depends on what you're looking for - whether you can handle the raw power and handling of the M car, or whether you need a little more civility.

I really liked the E39 M5, and thought hard about picking one up. HOwever, the 550i was just a litle more civilized for my needs - kids, clients, things like that.

Its just cool that BMW has so many options, in my opinion.

Well, it's been about 8 months, 7k miles later with my 335i and i'm loving every mile. I haven't had any issues and have no regrets moving "down" to the 3-series. There are some things i do miss about my 5, such as the roomier interior (i love my sport seat in the 3 tho), my heated steering wheel (have the seats), and i actually got better gas mileage in the 5 (24 or so vs. 20).

My only problem that i have is the fact that i see 3-series EVERYWHERE now, but i knew that would happen. Anyway, hope everyone is doing good!

I really liked the 335xi but my wife wanted me to get a bigger car so that we could all be comfortable in it. I'm 6' tall and about 210lbs so It's a little tight in there but I liked it. I bought the 535xi instead and I'm very happy with it. I should say NOW I am....

having both xi models I'm really curious how you compare the handling. I've been back and forth btwn the 3 and 5 and just can't find a way to get to one side or the other. I LOVE the coupe's handling and I LOVE the interior of the 5 and those seats. BUT the handling, it's just..feh. The sport pack is great on the 5 but I really want the xi so no suspension upgrade. Anyway, I'm blabbing, really curious how you'd compare the two.

I have had mine for a few weeks and I love it. I still need to write up a little comparison on the 545 vs 335. I have the coupe, so I don't see too many of those around.

I'm sorry if you misunderstood, I never had a 335xi I had a non sport 535xi which was bought back by BMW and I ordered a loaded 535xi with the sports pack. I can tell you that the one 535xi with the sports pack handles allot better than the one without even though they both don't have the sport suspension. What sets them apart is the 18" wheels and the sports seats that keep you tight in the pocket. Hope that helps......
