What model are we talking about here? I think all 3 engine models use a different intake system at least in the engine compartment. Not sure if the snorkel section in the fender-well is shared between platforms. But in any event, manufactures provide coverage in intake ducting to trap water (or settle) in the event it gets sucked up. The obviously exception here is fully submerged or full intake vacuum (aka full throttle).

The M5 Air intakes are on either side of the head lights to the out side of the Kidneys...
or so I thought.This is where all the scoop fittings usually got to get more air in to the Air box.
If I'm wrong I'll gladly admit it.
