Voice Command in my car speaks the Queen's English and does not understand me most of the time...

I use it to change the i-drive display from entertainment to map or similar. The nav entries by voice are not very good, but I do use voice to get the the right first screen. Radio or CD mode is easier with the steering wheel buttons, I think. I can only find services using voices -- I never remember how to get through the menus.

It's a good idea that needs a better implementation than I have in my 2004 530 -- I wonder if it's better or faster in later models?? The concept of keeping hands on the wheel and eyes on the road instead of playing with i-drive seems like a great idea.

Someone asked about voice commands; there's a long list in my "fine" manual. As always RTFM. However, if you say "Options" at any screen, it will read you a list of the most relevant commands for that spot.

+1 I used the voice command to occasionally impress people but ended up being embarrrased since it always says " Im sorry...please repeat"

I use it mostly to change radio stations and to make phone calls. I don't have the patience to go through those I-drive steps just to change the radio station or make a phone call. It works well for me.

I tend to use it for phone and sat nav. Works really well in mine, athough sometimes it brings up the wrong menu when you ask for something.

Last fall, I found the list of Voice Commands, I think on e60.net actually, and after reading through them, I thought, "who the hell could possibly remember all of that?!"

And rather than have a female speaking British English, I would have rather had a male speaking US English (I am not gay). I doubt that we would have so many communication failures, or mis-dialed phone calls...

However, US English is not available in Europe according to my communist service department.

I rarely use it as it mostly seems to be unable to hear me correctly!
