I have a 2008 528i and I have successfully created a phonebook and I have used voice command to dial numbers and names. However, I haven't been able to use the voice command for other functions such as the CD player, etc. When I spoke Help to it, it responded with phone commands but no other commands. I have read the voice command section several times in the manual, but I can't figure out why I can only use phone voice commands.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

Do you have navigation? At least in older models, I seem to recall that you needed the different computer system that came w/ Nav equipped cars to get "extended" voice control. Having just acquired my new car w/ Nav and Voice Control I am a rookie as well, but I thought earlier E60 models without Nav could control the phone with Voice but that was it. But I could very easily be wrong!

All depends if your car is equipped with a CCC which includes Voice Command. Otherwise, if you have M-ASK, you will have some voice command-like functionality for your phone book but you will be missing a lot, including speech-to-text conversion for the phone book (i.e. you will have to train the phone book if you don't have a CCC).

I have the exact same issue...in fact it still won't recognize name-based dialing, only numbers. I'm bringing my car in for a check at my dealership for this, and other minor issues I've come across in the 2008 528i.

If you mean speech-to-text, this is available if your car has a CCC (as I just posted above in this thread). If you don't, you will be asking about a feature you simply don't have because you opted for the low version of the computer and not the high version.

I don't have navigation in my car and I don't know what CCC stands for but from the sounds of things it looks like I may not have this feature? I can only use the voice command for phone related commands, but nothing else.

Thanks,

I assumed the named dial would work with my uploaded address book, but it doesn't. You have to create a voice phone book in order to use voice command to dial numbers by name. The instructions for this are found on page 207 in the owners manual. Did you try that yet?

Thanks,
CCC is Car Communication Computer, the high computer in the BMW. If you don?t have satnav, you have the M-ASK which is the low computer.

This is why you don?t have voice command capability. It comes only with the CCC.
