Sorry for the stupid question. Because I do NOT have NAV, does this mean I do not have the ability to use ANY voice commands (this is what my dealer is telling me)?

voice command will work with a cell phone either using a bluetooth connection or cradle. Push the button on the steering wheel and you will hear it prompt you for a command.

If you have a button on the steering wheel and by the i-Drive puck that has a speech input symbol ")))" <sound waves>, then you have Voice Navigation. Any of the normal i-Drive actions can be performed by voice. Read the Owner's Manual for details. I printed out a list of Voice Navigation commands just to see the breadth of the vocabulary (and ease of navigation, as it accepts different ways of issuing a command, such as Halt/Stop/Cancel).

There's a lot that you can do with Voice Navigation, independent of whether you have a cell phone attached. (Cell phone commands are a limited subset of the capabilities of Voice Navigation)

My understranding is you will have voice command for phone only. When you have nav you have the ability to use voice for several other car functions including climate. Without nav, voice command only with compatible Bluetooth or BMW phone.

It's not a function of NAV, just the way in comes in US. Understand some Euro cars have ordered or added voice command without NAV.

In US no current solution if you want to use voice for other than phone if you don't have factory nav installed.
