With what options are the voice commands supposed to work?

The voice commands are awesome. It's the coolest feature of the car, IMO. For example, I love changing the radio (i.e. saying "100.5 FM" and it changes) and CD (i.e. saying "track 3..."). It does lots of things.

Let me rephrase - what equipment has to be present in your car for it to work?
Does voice command have to be ordered separately? And are there different versions of it..?

I have ith w530 Nav and the options list includes Voice Command Prep at no charge. However I don't know if Nav is required for voice command.

In the US, at least, you get the voice control with the NAV. I can't speak with any authority for other markets.

Now, if you have a car with NAV build in Jan or Feb, then you will need a software update to activate the voice control. Cars with NAV built March onward have the voice control installed at the factory.

Mine was mid February build and the car came with Voice from the factory.

I'm not sure whats necessary to be loaded to have Voice commands, but I always thought you needed Nav. Just my guess, though. Seems like I have read something on this though. I just cant remember now.

What if you have business naviagtion and built in phone?
Since the built in phone accepts phone voice commands? do you think a software update will enable me to give other voice commands.

Service Manager told me that upgrade to SW v11.0 is required, so that he will need the car all day to activate voice command.
I'll keep you posted.

Update - 8 A. M. - Brought car into service department
5 P.M. - still an hour to go on upgrading to SW v11.0 The dealer says the high speed dataport is only useable by factory techs, not by the dealer service department.
I will keep you posted on progress tomorrow.

Sorry to say, but my E60 got the Ver 11 software last week, and I still can't use Voice Recogn. I just don't understand why it works in US.

Anybody in EU with navi Pro and Voice rec. that works ??
