I took delivery of my MY2005 E60 545i on July 15.It was supposed to have all options except the HUD which was not available on the color of the vehicle i have selected.(the car was not ordered earlier but selected out of ten cars which were available with the dealer at the time of purchase).

I was promised that the HUD could be retrofitted in september against a minimal charge because the car is fitted with the navigation system professional and all the telematics preparations.

The salesperson keeps insisting that it could be done but not before december whereas the workshop personel say the only way to have it is to buy a new car fitted with the device.

Moreover the voice control system does not work.

Once again here the workshop say this is option 620 which is not fitted on my car and the salesperson insist to say this is part of navigation system professional and needs only to be activated with sotware ver 13 they received last week.

HELP

HUD as far as I know is NOT retrofittable. Sorry to say that. I asked my sales people because I wanted HUD as well but they told me that you can't retrofit it.

Voice activation I'm not too sure. From what I know, voice recognition comes with NAV PRO. So as long as you have NAV PRO, you should have the capability. It really depends on local availability as to whether they will activate it or not. In Australia, the first few E60s didn't have it but after a couple of months, BMW activated it for them.

My advice, listen to the workshop people, they usually know more about the cars than the sales guys.

Where are you located? That can help a lot. I was told the HUD was not retro-fittable. New dash and all that extra work right there. I doubt it. Kick your sales rep in the a$$ if I were you.

Welcome to the board.

HUD can be retrofitted, technically - and ONLY technically!
You would need to replace the windshield and the dashboard and the software needs to be changed.
If you just think about the costs for a moment you will agree with us, that your dealer has NO CLUE, and it can't be done, since it's waaay too expensive.
Switching standard seats for comfort seats is waaaay easier and costs a couple thousand Bucks allready!
I guess a retrofit of HUD will cost more than 10K !

You forgot the next sentence.
I don't know what kind of deal the dealer had, but it looks a little bit like he had cars on order allready...
Anyways, I was wondering about it too, but didn't asked.
