When we had our E60 meet last Saturday Kigerka came up with an interesting question.
I didn't even knew it's there, but Kigerka noticed something, what looks like a speaker, in the drivers footwell. It's underneath the dash, above your feet! It seems nobody knows what this is for. And it's on mine as well as on the other US spec E60's that were there.

Any ideas?

Yep. I've got L7, what means 13 speakers. No speaker in this location. Counting this as a speaker too, makes it 14...

I'm not sure, but is it possible this is the speaker for use with BMW Assist? When you speak with one of their operators, is this the speaker where you hear them? I previously had a MB that had a speaker in the footwell which was used when contacting TeleAid.

I asked to my dealer to locate all speakers (10 totally) after getting my car for two days. I had counted all the speakers and found only 9 (including the one in the foot well), and dealer told me that the other two speakers are built in the same housing with those rear speakers. I then thought that my car have a bonus speaker, but, actually the one in the foot well is phone speaker and BMW Assi .

That could be!

I think BMW assist and the phone are on the speakers of the soundsystem, so this might be it!

I don't think its for the PDC as you hear the beeps from the rear speakers to tell you which side the obstruction is located.
