Can't easily find anything in TIS but I'll take my guess as to what the speaker is...

I remember reading somewhere that there is a backup system for BMWAssist in case the main audio system is malfunctioning due to an accident. Maybe the speaker grille is the backup speaker for Assist?

I am going to go and look with a flashlight and see if I see anything behind it. maybe take a pic so others know what we are talking about.

I also like the idea of the speaker for the chimes...
Need to listen to the chimes the next time to find out where they come from...

OK, we know it's not the pdc, nor the sound system, and it's not the phone...

Chimes or BMW Assist back up... Any other ideas ?
