hi our E60 runs on a fibre optic network. industry insiders refer to this by the acronym MOST - that's a joint effort by BMW & a key industry player - cannot remember which off hand - just do a google search.
the iDRIVE display is central to displaying info on this system - there are many modules that can be plugged into the MOST network on the E60 - the ones that come installed by factory would be the generic ones that make the electronics function as well as the audio system.
i have been told by my dealer that a "Video module" is needed if you want to hook up an onboard DVD or TV system - i think the E60's reverse camera is connected to the said module as well
heard it's a pricey option.
