I had OEM 17s on it before mounting the 166s. Is it just the 166s that dont need hub rings or any OEM BMW wheel?

By definition OEM wheels would be made to not need hub rings to make them fit. There are no OEM wheels that require hub rings, OEM wheels are made to be hubcentric to begin with. Hence, if you have rings they are not real wheels - regardless of what they say on the back

but having the hub rings there with OEM wheels could result in the vibration in the first place, no?

Sure if you use hub rings with OEM wheels, yes, you could get vibration. However, it probably wouldn't be caused by the wheels at that point but by the rings - since they are, at best, redundant with OEM wheels

You can not put hub rings to OEM wheels and then mount them to car.

See, the center bore of the OEM wheel (for the E60) is 72,56mm and the hub in the car is 72,56mm also. There is no room for any hub ring.
As said, if you have hubcentric rings on your wheels, their center bore is in not 72,56mm, but probably 74,1mm (as in E39) and hubcentric rings are needed to diminish the bore size down to 72,56mm.

Sure there are OEM wheels that need hubcentric rings to be correctly mounted into the E60, but these wheels are originally made for E39. Anyhow, the style 166 wheels have been made only for E60 with the correct 72,56mm bore.

Okay well im determine to find this problem lol
i took one of my wheels off and it looks like the hub rings was pushed back and it looks squeezed. Whoever mounted my wheels probably didnt know what he was doing

It's unbelievable how can one squeeze a hubcentric ring between the wheel and the wheel hub when they're an exact fit?
