Hey All,
I recently bought a valve cover gasket as to not get screwed price wise from the stealership.. I have seen a DIY for the N52, but have had trouble finding one for my 545.. Has anyone seen a DIY or have any suggestions to get me going with this? any help would be awesome.

Biggest thing is to take your time. basically the 1st half of it is the same as removing the spark plugs for the motor. Make sure your coil wires are not wet with oil. otherwise I would recommend spark plug tubes. And you really should replace the front upper timing covers at the same time.

I may need to do valve cover soon as well.
People say you can easily break the camshaft position sensor when taking the valve cover off. Is that true? Any tips to avoid it?
Also some say you need to reset the servomotor with DIS?

I did that project 2 years ago ? real pain!
My 0.02:
1. Disassembly everything around valve covers ? you will need every inch of space
2. Get all new O-rings (for all sensors)
3. Buy new spark plug pipes (new ones come with heat shield) ? you will need white grease to push in the valve cover on the tube of spark plug pipes
4. Be careful not to damage eccentric shaft sensor? very easy to do and very expensive to replace (close to $400 - part #5)

5. You don?t need to you to reset the servomotor with DIS
6. You need to remove camshaft sensors ? it is much easier to remove valve cover without them.
7. Buy original BMW valve cover gasket (in my opinion the rubber is a bit different and easier to install).
8. Replace upper chain cover gaskets while you do valve covers. If they are not leaking now, they will start soon. Parts #2 and #4, you will also need #8 and #9
