Could cause a crack in the plastic valve cover if you tight too much

You also need to replace all fasteners with new one when replacing VCG.

I was wondering why to spend extra $30 for bolts but I think it is worth to get those bolts as all repaire manuals state they should be replace once removed. As others mentioned torgueing those fasteners to the specs and in right order is important to avoid deforming the gasket. In factories when the robots put the covers they torgue all the fasteners at the same time. You can not do it robot's way second time that's why you have to pay close attention torquing them. If your engine was overheated once I thick you better to replace the valve cover with the new one. It is up to you replace them or not.

M54 doesn't require this as the N does.

Hey guys. Just as a follow-up, I bought a new gasket and bought new rubber bolt seals too. When I did the job the first time, I didn't realize it was recommended to replace the rubber bolt seals.

Well, it was a rubber bolt seal that was leaking this time. It was one of the seals on the top(middle) of the valve cover gasket and it was just letting oil get everywhere.

Cleaned everything up and re-applied RTV when I installed the new gasket. So far, so good.

Thanks everyone!
