Sorry about the damage.
I always drop the valet guy a tip on the way in for a special event (dinner) to guarantee that my car is treated well.
Human nature is to not care about other people's property.
The extra $5 goes a long way (unless it is the valet guy from Ferris Bueler's Day Off). I think of it as "insurance."
Does anyone else take this same approach?
I used to do that when I used to drive the 911. I think it helped a lot and they always parked it right upfront and a distance away from other cars.

To the OP: good luck with your claim, but at this point I think it's a long shot. Another lesson learned for the next time. Alawys walk around the car with the valet (don't forget to write down his/her name) before and after.

The attorney joked with me that she might enjoy a day out of the office and go to court. She claimed her desk job was boring. I was not intimidated by her willingness to show up.

OK gang - here's a newsflash. I just deposited the settlement check from the parking garage! They decided I was serious about pursuing the claim. A claims adjuster came to my home and inspected the damage. He wrote up an estimate and they paid on that number. Honestly it was about 20% lower than it should have been but I decided fighting for the remaining $$$ was too much headache. I'm sure that is what they were counting on but I feel fortunate to have them take responsibility. Moral of the story is 1) avoid valet parking and 2) stick to your guns.

AFAIK, as the valet company stated, it was not reported before you left the lot/@ time of pick up, they are not responsible for it. So this turns into a their word vs. yours argument...it would be very hard for you to prove that the damage was done under their supervision and easy for them to disprove that damage was incurred under their care as well. Most companies even have that disclaimer somewhere on their valet ticket, something to the effect of any damage not reported at time of drop off or pick up they are not responsible for...

has happened to me twice with 2 different cars...the first time they actually stole money from my car....picked up my car from valet, didn't look to take the cash out until I got home...only to find it was gone...same reply was given to me when i called the next day.."you didn't report it before you drove off the lot"

the second time I got home and found a good sized gash in my bumper, they must have backed up into a the bumper of a another car..causing the license plate to damage my bumper....I didn't even bother to try and report this one...

I did report this to both establishments that employed the valet's in question tho...

unfortunately both times: lessons learned....never leave anything of value in the car when you go to valet....and walk the valet around the car at drop off and pick up to make sure they note any damage....

sorry to hear about the damage..hope things get resolved quickly and to your satisfaction...
+1 nicely said but its true. hope things work out for you

Well done, i am of a like mind never let anyone off with anything. This attitude got me some money back on my car hire recently, it pays to hold em to account.
