OK,

I've found some other mp3's in my collection that are 192kbps. I've tried these in the car, and all of them play just fine?! So hopefully that disproves the 192kbps situation.

I have however realised that this album was ripped by a different encoder, namely "Acoustica Audio Converter Pro 1.0 b23" (not sure where that came from but I've used various programs over the years). So I re-ripped it using iTunes at 192kbs and hey presto this works. Interestingly the file sizes created by the iTunes rip are marginally different, so could be something different in the way the files are created.

I can only assume that the cars software upgrade is not happy with something to do with this encoder? Hopefully I won't come across too many other albums that I'll need to re-rip.

At least that's one issue that I can solve without a visit to the dealer.

Thanks for you interest / reponses guys.

Barry

Maybe the files that didn't work were ripped at a variable bit rate instead of a constant one?

Either way, glad you got it sorted out...

They didn't appear to be VBR. The confusing thing being that the album played before the software update just fine, and the USB memory stick hasn't been out of the car for a few months to change the tracks, so I assumed the only problem could be a corruption, but a fresh copy from the PC and a fresh USB stick didn't resolve that. So must be something to do with the codec compatibility with the software upgrade?

Anyhow, like you say, good thing is I know why it did it now.

Cheers

Barry
