USB = OEM iPod connection

here's mine

Ah ok, so the USB just supplies charging power to the iPod and it uses the 3.5mm stereo cable for iPod audio. I'm guessing it doesn't have any fancy information coming up on the iDrive screen such as song information etc? Is there another option that does give full information on the iDrive screen?

If I wanted to use a USB flash drive that has MP3 songs, anyone know which USB drives are compatible and up to what capacity? How do you choose and select songs, is this done via iDrive screen?

actually yes, you do get to control your ipod via the idrive with info on your idrive screen...

and yes, you can put a thumb drive into you use port and still play songs via idrive....

try running a search under 6fl or usb ipod option, this topic has been discussed numerous times

I did try searching using things like "USB interface" etc but obviously wasn't hitting the keywords to find the correct topics. The keywords you gave me were spot on. Managed to find this page which seemed promising but has a dead link:
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...b++ipod++option

Then went on to google and found these two:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.p...3577&page=2
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.p...991&page=12

The both explained it well etc. Does anyone know if this cable is supposed to be included with the car and whether they were successful in getting one from the dealer? Especially in the UK. What's the cheapest place to buy one of these cables?

Thanks for the help.

My car has voice recognition. It responds to me when I say "iPod" and it corrects me with "USB".

@GENEaTALS: Did you get this cable with your car or buy it after market? If you got it after market, how much did it cost?

TIA

In the US, it comes with the USB option. I recall UK/EU folks having to buy the cable upon delivery.

I can confirm that UK do have to buy the cable on top of the paying for the option. Bit silly really but may get a discounted price if I get it with the purchase of the car.
