US iDrive Voice Command

My Ride: 525i, Orient Blue, bought used with 22000 miles. Grey lether, sport package, BMW Assist, Cold Weather package. Xenons. NOT premium for some reason, I do like the metal finish vs. the wood, but do miss the garage opener.
Fellow e60-ites:
My car has "nav prep" which means I have the little button for voice command next to the "menu" button below the gear shift.
Is this button only useful for talking to the Nav system or can you use it to tell your iDrive what to do, such as "Radio Off" etc.? I don't realy want to pay the money for Nav but it would be neat to be able to do the other.
I've seen posts where UK'ers talk about voice command features but have not seen that as an option for US.
If I did want to add in the NAV how much would it be do you think?

You can control everything with voice commands. Click on the E50 logo on the top of this page then click on INFORMATION on the next page and yuo will see a PDF doc with all of the possible commands.
