Lets be clear here ... I have a 01/2006 build 530d which I purchased 2nd had a couple of weeks ago from a BMW dealer. I thought that by doing a CIP software upgrade, I'd be able to get the in dash CD to play MP3. Is this true? does anyone know for sure?

I saw a BMW worksheet or something on one of the forums indicating that an upgrade of the software would do the job. Or am I mistaken?

My dealer has just told me there are 15 things to upgrade before the MP3 upgrade can be done. Is this true?

I'm lead to believe that the entire system would fail. Is this true?

I'm losing confidence in my dealer. There are also other issues, such as getting a mobile phone to work in the car ... they have had the car for 2 days and no work seems to be done.

Anyone help with the MP3 issue?

cheers

I don't think there is anything to change just the software to enable MP3 playback.

I believe when they are doing a software update dealer must go under the option or retrofit section to enable MP3.

I think the first question to be answered is whether you have the a non-CCC MASK or if you have full navigation? The non-CCC MASK units such as mine could not have the MP3 enabled, it was a hardware limitation in the MASK unit. Although there is one person that I could find in archives claiming to have a non-CCC unit that had the MP3 turned on during a progman update.

Yup, same response conveyed by my SA on my 01/2004 build.

I don't understand what a non-CCC MASK is. I've just been with the dealer this morning. They've agreed to do the upgrade to v32.02 ... or whatever the latest is. My car is an 01/2006 build with the business navigation. I've been advised that it should work. I'll keep you posted.

cheers

Virgil,

Just remember to tell your SA that its not just an upgrade of the Progman, they actually have to "ENABLE" the MP3 availability. Some dealers (like mine) thought it was just dumping the new software in, but there was an extra step. If they follow the SIB exactly they should be fine.
