hi, im from the uk and recently bought a 2004 525i. im quite pleased with it so far (despite a few random faults but im working on them lol) one area that im a bit unhappy with is the audio. i had a nice setup in my 323i and im missing the quality. i believe ive got the bog standard 6 speaker system with no amp in the boot. what can i do to improve it? ive still got my amp and sub from my previous car and im thinking of installing that. ive been browsing a lot of forums over the last couple weeks but most seem to refer to upgrading the hifi or logic7 setup so any help with the standard would be appreciated. my amp can accept speaker level inputs, so i was planning to tap into the rear speaker wires. can i access them from the right hand side of the boot where all the fuses and wiring lives?
from what i gather its difficult to install an aftermarket headunit so im stuck with the original. what can the standard head unit handle? ive been considering popping in some vibe slick 4s for the moment. theyre only a cheap upgrade but im guessing they will be an improvement over whats in there now. an alternative would be alpine sxe-1025s. neither are particularly powerfull but im sure i read somewhere that the standard headunit is 4 x 15watt so the choices are limited.

I havent done this upgrade as I have premium sound, but I know its possible.
Ive seen multiple mentions of it, but its been within the context of the CIC upgrade (Im doing) and it being a solution to the woofer fix issue.
Thats not what youre looking for, but I know the detail is out there (on this board) and its been done successfully by multiple others: new amp, adding center speaker into the dash, wiring, pictures, etc.
Kind of half an answer, but keep searching.
