updating progman

My Ride: 2004 545i Sport

hello. I have a 04 545i and im not sure if my progman is the latest version. It is no longer under warranty and bmw is say $170/hr for an unknown amount of hours.

Is it possible that independent shops specialized in BMWs can upgrade the progman? how much should it roughly cost?

I doubt you would have much luck. You may come across one with an illegal copy of the latest software but...

I've read on here before of people who got upgrades through indy shops.

Might want to also check around to various BMW dealerships and Dinan shops. Also depending on your software verison there might haven't been any program updates that will even effect your car over the last year or two. So that is important to make sure someone that knows the updates in and out can tell you if a software update is even going to be worth it.

I do doubt it.

The updates need a on line connection the BMW factory servers and specialized equipment.
