Thanks Iceman. I have AFS but no rattling. It seems I was talking about something different than the original poster. I have an electrical bzzzzz in engine compartment, after unlocking the car.
Thanks everyone...I have scheduled a service for next week and will advise my SA on what I found on this forum. It sounds like only the cars with Active Steering are encountering this problem and it makes sense.

What is the difference between Active Steering (AS) and Active Front Steering (AFS)??

I know I don't have Active Steering, but I hear that buzz.. noise when I use my remote all the time.

AFS = AS

It's the same!!!

The buzz is not related to AFS/AS.

I agree. Becuase I just had my CIP upgraded to 20.x last week, and I still have that noise. It doesn't bother me that much though. I thought every e60 has the same noise. Am I wrong??

Yep.
The buzz is normal.

The rattling isn't. The rattling is related to AFS/AS and is gone when the newest CIP is installed.

Many modern cars prime for starting as soon as you unlock them, fuel pump and 'glow plugs' on diesels.

Hence the warnings not to even unlock your car if you put the wrong fuel in.

Could be the electrical 'buzz' is the fuel pump priming or associated relay.
