More specific to UK owners, I called this morning to my local dealership, I was looking for a simple quotation, 'two rear tyres to fit the 172 (19') rims', Ok so maybe i should have had the tyre sizes, the answer was basically 'oh there are to many combinations, you will have to come back with the exact sizing' fair enough.

Ok so putting aside sizing for now, is there any reason I can't purchase from another tyre supplier? more specifically do the TPM sensors have to be replaced when having new tyres fitted ?

I'm figuring anything up to ?300/tyre for my rears but would be happy if someone in the UK can point me to a good supplier/fitter.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Hi,

I always use E-Tyres for my tyres.

They come out to you and fit the tyres there and then. I've found them to be pretty much the cheapest out there and the fitters are always professional and friendly.

Hopefully there'll be a fitter in your area.

Marc

Try this one:
http://www.valuetyres.co.uk/

search 275/30/19

It can be choose to fit it in your local fitting centre, less than ?197/each for Toyo T1-R fitted

There's only one OEM size for 19" rears on the E60.... <sigh>

Anyway, I've used mytyres before - 275/30/19's are about ?230 each (Conti's), delivered. Then find a local trusted fitter, should cost you no more than ?20/wheel...

AFAIK all the UK models use the ABS based flat tyre monitor, so nothing special to do there...

How's things? Not seen you on the board recently?

I too need to replace my rear tyres - same as yours - Conti 2's, 275/30/19. Luckily, my father is in the motor-trade and so I can get a pair (as a favour) for ?408 (?204 each) inc VAT, fitted & balanced at a local tyre specialist he deals with.

The best other current deal I have seen is Kwik-Fit (I know not a likely place) as they have a deal where buying 2 currently attracts a 15% discount (4 attracts a 25% discount) until the end of the month (January). Price I was quoted was ?255 inc VAT x 2 = ?510 -15% = ?433.50 (or ?216.75 each), fitted & balanced.

Interestingly (and quite outrageous to be honest) I got a quote from my BMW dealer (Williams Manchester) and was quoted ?323.07 inc VAT x 2 = ?646.14, fitted & balanced for exactely the same tyres! That's a whopping ?212.64 (or ?106.32 per tyre) dearer than Kwik-Fit! I did double check all the details were correct and even the guy on the phone admitted 'they don't sell many because of the pricing not being competative'.

My car has now done 18.5K miles. The frustrating part for me is that the centres are worn to the wear-bands, while both outer edges on both rear tyres have around 3mm left. I think this maybe down to a faulty local garage airline gauge which I think may read 6 - 7 PSI over, and so I have been driving around with my tyres over inflated so to speak virtually since new (I always check them weekly at the same place (old habbits die hard and all that.....). I asked on this board out of interest if this is a common wear trait with this tyre / wheel combo but didn't really get a definitive answer. My fronts by contrast (and with using the same local garage airline) have worn much better with an even 5mm or so left across all the tyre on both.

How have yours worn out of interest and with how many miles?

Edited to add that there is nothing special with regards the TPMS as it doesn't use sensors in the wheels on our model, just the ABS sensor to monitor tyre rotation speeds as colejl says. You can check this by looking at your tyres valves, they should be standard rubber ones NOT metal types (which I believe use sensors placed in the rims which are very expensive).

That's a stonking deal!!!!

Just make sure whoever does the tyre swap actually cares about the (expensive) alloys they are mounted to...

I am dreading having them changed for that reason. My dad is going to speak with owner to make sure one of the best guy's fit these for me. My dad's company spends a fair bit with them each month.
