UK: 535d Owners and BP Ultimate Diesel
Allthough I do not have a 535, my experiences are the same. I have used Morrisons fuel in the majority of my 101k miles, without a problem. Every now and then, when forced, I have filled up wth mainstream fuels, and the average MPG has dropped from 49 to 45 when using these fuels.
There is plenty of debate about supermarket fuels etc, but never had a problem myself!!!

For me it depends on what your objective is......mine isn't economy, I didn't buy a 535d for my wallet, I bought it for amongst other things, the amount of torque the engine produced (most of my driving is on motorways - high torque, in gear acceleration & motorways = fun) - I am now actualy choosing diesel cars for performance reasons not economy! My experience with BP Ultimate is that the engine feels to run smoother, quieter and give a tangible performance improvement. My experience is that you need to run through a good 3 to 4 tanks before you properly feel the difference - do this then drop in a tank of standard and see what you think.
All of this is academic if your purpose is economy however..........this test I have not done!

Always used BP Ultimate, and feel it gives better throttle response. Also like the idea that it is keeping tjhe engine cleaner. As for MPG, I average 31 MPG even on the couple of occasions in France when I have not used BP. I have noticed that since the DMS upgrade driving around 90MPH seems to give best economy!

My Ride: E61 535d Apr 05. UK spec + Media Pack, Luxury Pack & Visibility Pack
Tried BPU on a couple of consecutive tankfuls. No perceived difference in smoothness or performance, no measured difference in consumption. Back to Esso, saving 6 miles and 7p/litre per tank.

Always fill up with Shell, as it's the closest to my place of work and also the cheapest around.
When in Germany (or on the way there) I always fill up with Shell V-Power Diesel. Although more expensive than the normal Shell diesel, still miles cheaper than the diesel here.
Never have elaborated if it makes a difference on consumption, as whenever I am over there the driving pattern is so much different. It usually is town driving or full (or near full) blast Autobahn hunting. Not the best circumstances to compare mpg.
