Mine went out at about 70K miles. CPO warranty covered it. These electric water pumps are guaranteed to fail, its practically a standard maintenance item.
123,600mi. and going. still original. Coolant changed at 49K and then started topping off at 79K miles topped off every 6-8 months with about 20 fluid oz.
I assume there is a tiny pin-hole leak somewhere which doesn't warrant me replacing any hoses especially when I have a bunch of coolant. I just check it every 90 days.
BTW, infamous aluminum "bullet proof" M54 here :-)
Same as my wife's 2004 325i. Which I recently learned that the 530 gets better gas mileage than the 525... so I changed some things on the car (intake manifold etc etc) and loaded 330 software and now she has a 04 330i Good deal. 59K miles so it's still a baby no water pump issues so far. I just changed the coolant for the first time in her car about 1000K ago.

Mine went out at about 65K miles
. I knew it was bad when I started hearing some rattling noises going on which got progressively louder as I revved. I bought one of those mechanics stethoscope to pinpoint the issue. I'd rate the repair at about 3.5 wrenches out of 5. Fairly easy but somewhat an involved process.
Rarely do the impeller go bad, most common are worn bearing. When that happens the bearing seal breaks which allows coolant to seep past and out the weep hole. And because my bearings were shot, the noise I was hearing was from the misaligned, rapidly rotating impeller shaft and bearing banging around in there.

!!!! Would it kill ya to clean that old stuff out just once??? All kidding aside, for the $20 you would spend on a gallon and the 10 minutes it might take you to flush and refill I would do it... I hope you change your oil more frequently!

I'm assuming when he said "coolant" he's talking about the antifreeze and not the oil. At least let's hope so...
2008 550 LCI 53K. Yup of course just after 50k. Cost a grand.
Water pump was making clunking noise on low idle. I expected much worse so the grand felt like a steal.
Took it to Otto's in PA. Place is awesome.
Still bumbed it took a crap in the 50's.
