I drive with a lead foot all the time and never any burning smell.

As for the chime did you figure out if it was the hourly chime or the over speed indicator?? Likely one of the two...

Burning smell? Have you checked your drawers?

I crested 100+ yesterday, for the first time with this car, pulling a Hat Trick (2 cars and a truck) on a two-lane highway. Just as quiet and unflapped as I expected.

Cheers,
Ray Hull

In an old car, the burning smell is the excessive oil/gas. That's the reason for the say,"Smoking em." When you overtake your competitor, you beat him by dumping fuel (and oil if your old engine was leaky) in your engine (flooring the pedal, pedal to the metal, etc). Hence, your competitor got "smoked" (from your tail pipe) and gets to smell the crappy excess fuel/oil. You farted on him.

Now, in the bimmer, I don't smell anything because I use inside air. When I smoked a MB 430 awhile back, at 120 mph, I didn't smell anything either because I used inside air (AC). I have never tried outside air in my 545i.

[/quote]I never smell anything either, but my windows almost always are up AC or not. And, the AC always is on recirculate. Thanks for the info on smoking em. I certainly have smoked a few. I just didn't know it. ~{;^) I thought it had to do with tire smoke and smell, and I usually don't smoke my tires. I'd rather throw $50 out the window.

I used to be able to detect a burning smell outside my car, at the rear, after a journey - never returned after I changed out the runflats.
