The catylitic converters build up carbon deposits with normal driving, when you open it up, they burn off, this is normal, and also the reason people suggest to open it up once in a while. Quick fix is to drive 160mph everyday!!

Correct katheikia! This smell you are all talking about is the catalytic converter. I couldn't wait to get to the end of this damn thread to post this. You just beat me to it. This smell is most definitely 100% your catalytic converters. These units are designed to operate most efficiently at certain temps. When those temps are exceeded, the unit gets hotter than it should and emits an unmistakable odor. You can definitely tell the difference between brakes, tires and a catalytic.

Thank you thats the answer I was looking for! Makes sense now. I kinda figured its not really somthing "wrong" but somthing isnt perfect either since some people have that smell and some dont... Obviously I do since I drive in traffic a lot and when I do open it up it burns away all that junk that has been built up.

P.S. Another thing, for about a week now as i'm driving the car I hear 4 low beeping sounds almost like the sound of a countdown. This has happened everyday for about a week now. There are no messages on the i-drive.
The beeping ? seems to me like you are way to close on the guy in front of you and the signal from de PDC is active
