Sorry if this has been answered but... would this apply to folks who are out of their factory warranty period? And just how might someone go about ensuring that this is the case with their local BMW dealership?
I believe this only applies to the N54 motor...x35 BMW models

Thanks for all the replies. What a strange problem that it happens again and again in some cars, and not at all in others?!

It seems like you guys had some major drivability issues with this -- limp home mode, and such -- all I ever had were long crank times.

Thanks again.

Wait till you floor it on the high way that is usually when I got the first sign of troubles. No long starts ...

There was a letter sent out for 08 MY car owners about the 10y 120k on the HPFP replacements...

No word on the 09-10's but they are still having issues too.

Turbos and the associated plumbing in general make a car less reliable. Mine so far has been flawless.

Fuel pumps have been failing on both the 335 and 535s. I think it is more a function of any BMW having the N54 engine, but I have yet to hear of anyone having that problem with an N54 powered X6.

I am still on my first pump but I am keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

Also, I've heard that the (I think) fifth version of the HPFP is finally solid. Not to mention that BMW extended the warranty on HPFPs to 100k miles in thee U.S.

Why dont you just put in a Walbro? FI scene use them for a long time, they go like 160,- IIRC .-) I got one of them to my M3 once stock unit died, 2 years and no trouble at all

The first time, my exhaust warning light came on (called "SES" I think ?), but never the check engine light. The second time there were no warning lights at all. At no time did I ever get a message on iDrive.

I'm skeptical that the pump problem has been remedied because the one that just went out was installed in February..... unless it was an old one that was sitting around it should have been the latest generation, right?
