Thumbs up

Hi all.

This is my first posting to your illustrious site and I'm hoping that I can glean some of that profound knowledge you guys have.

I bought my first BMW car last month (I've had a Beemer bike before) and must say that it's f a n t a s t i c !- I just want to drive it all day .

It was my intention to remap, but then thought about adding a primary turbo like the 535D has. Is this possible without having to rebuild most of the engine and/or intakes, etc?

Hi Raph,

Enjoy your great car as it is, or add a little spice by remapping it.

There's so much componentry that is different between 530d and 535d that you are probably better off selling and rebuying. You'd need to change the whole exhaust system, the intercooler is different, the ECU is different (not just a different state of tuning - at least, the electrical diagrams and sensor inputs are different), the turbo assembly is completely different (it's not just a small turbo added on - the larger one would need replacing too), ...

Good to have you onboard!

When it comes to tuning the 530d I know from several persons that they are really pleased with what the German market, such as http://www.mehrleistung.com/, has to offer. Take dlevi67's advice and enjoy your car. As we all need something to dream about - add a 535d in your dreams for your next purchase

The insurance on your 'special' would probably be more than buying a 'proper' 535d too

Are there any replacement turbos out there that can provide better boost and flow characteristics than the standard units?

With petrol turbos it can often be as easy just to do a turbo swap and remap to obtain big power.

Wonder if it can be done with the derv? Especially if you start with the 535d as a base and just get an improved secondary or "big" turbo for added excitement!
