what kind of dvd player is it? is it a special dvd player or can i go to bestbuy or something and find a compact dvd player and use that?? also, does the unit have a built in tv tuner and can the unit function while I am driving?? Also, does aux port come standard on 2007 e60s??
Any standard car DVD. I put mine in the space where a CD changer would go. The unit comes with a built in TV tuner you need to buy an antenna. It functions while driving (not that I've ever done that, though ). I believe aux port is a option even in 2007 model.

There are a few generations for E60 units from Dominic. What I have is 6.5" unit and 6.5"/8.8". The 6.5" has good quality and never fails on me yet, but it has a shortcoming. Switching back to i-Drive screen from back-up cam takes more than 10 second. Not instantly like newer version 6.5"/8.8".

Newer unit 6.5"/8.8" has no delay at all, but LVDS input receptor is pathetic and make this unit cheap. All it has it 10 pins sticking out and no connector holder at all. LVDS connector from i-Drive screen easily comes off even just move the unit around. What needs to be done is wrapping the LVDS cable and the unit with a few rounds of duct tape to make LVDS from i-Drive unit attached to the unit, but it's not acceptable for even a $200 unit.
Newer unit seems to be heat sensitive. If outside you park your car outside at 90+ degree, unit will show blurred pictures after a few minutes.
The worst thing about these units is the wire is tooooo thin connects to the unit connectors. It can easily ripped-off from pin connector. This makes unit looks cheap.
Unit has two language option: Korean and English. So your turn to guess where unit were designed and built.
RCA connectors labeled incorrectly. One red RCA was labeled as Video 3, and Yellow for Audio. What I need to do was to test every single RCA connector and relabeled them. Is it ok that I pay $500 for the unit, and do the debugging and QA for them? Something to think about.
The instruction manual comes in either .PDF for ink-jet hard copy. In fact, there'll be a lot of guessing and assumption to do before installation, and the instruction is for other unit, not the one that I have at hand.
Anyway, this unit still has a lot of room to improve to deserve a $300 price tag.
If you asked me if I'd buy this unit for $500 again? I'll let you know the answer via PM
Would this unit suit for DIY? Yes, only if and only if you are comfortable with open up your car, and NO if you're not comfortable with opening up your car.
Hope it helps.
Good luck.
