the first week I got messed up , but then I read again the manual and I am very gentle with my car, and gently tap it in the same direction

They should issue a "driving tips" leaflet with the car so that us more mentally challenged people don't have to go through this learning curve. I too spent many weeks indicating left, right, left, right before I figured out that the safe option is a gentle tap in the same direction. I even went through a period of abstinence when I couldn't get the hang of it initially. (I switched off the 3 blink option in i-drive for a few weeks, then when I decided I was brave enough enough to try again I enabled it once more, and lo and behold I found the "trick" almost straight away).
I got a little 'guide to essential controls' leaflet with my car couldn't be bothered reading it though as I already knew wot the steering wheel was for

Isn't it BMW drivers who are supposed to be the stereo-typical drivers that don't use thier indicators? lol
Perhaps soft touch blinkers is why....

I actually wondered if BMW were trying to preserve the stereotype by making it hard to indicate ....

Funnily enough on this very topic I was sent this important recall notice earlier today. A bit ironic really when we have been discussing the accidental over use of the indicators. (I had to edit out some of the words as they were a bit strong for general consumption).

What does bug me - A LOT - is that in my usual driving position the steering wheel blocks my view of the turn indicator lights and the clicking sound is very quiet, so for me it is easy to forget that they are activated.
This is the real problem as far as I am concerned. The clicker is virtually inaudible and when the stereo is on, you just can't hear it at all. My Chrysler minivan has an alarm tone that sounds off if you you leave a blinker on for more than a minute or so. You'd think BMW would at least offer a similar solution. Better yet, vary the sound of the clicker based on ambiant sound levels.

It's funny cause it's true

Actually my theory is that BMW's like many luxury cars are so 'nice' to drive, fast and responsive that we swan around in them and don't always notice that we have upset someone in a nissan micra

After 2.5yrs driving an E60 I still can't do it right. BMW should have left it as it was in the E39.

The car is full of this magnetic/electro-magnetic crap that you push to pull (kinda like the genius of Windows software and Start to Stop). Just consider: the turn signals, the gas filler flap, the front ashtray cover, and perhaps more that I haven't discovered.

In my estimation: It's too tricky by half.

Jeers,
Ray Hull
