Turbo 6 vs V8
#21
Hi Guys, first post here. I have a 550 and an S4 and have had many turbo (and nitrous) cars in the past. Tunability of a turbo is better and you can certainly make the power you want with it, but you have to be into that type of thing. The V8 is power and torque out of the box and the sound is hard to beat. If gas mileage is your objective then the turbo 6 is the ticket, if you like to tinker the turbo 6 again is the engine to have. If you want power and sound with no fuss the V8 is the way to go.
Since I have done quite a bit of turbo tuning and am not really interested anymore, the V8 makes more sense for my lifestyle. For me, there is something about the power and torque of a big V8 hitting hard that brings a smile to my face. Just for reference my Talon made nearly 500whp and ran low 11s on street tires, full interior and a/c .
Some days I think I should have gotten a 535 as I have access to a dyno and hoist etc, a good friend of mine is a big Honda tuning company and has a pretty wild shop.

Yup. The Dinan Stage 2 ECU reflash produces 501 bhp and 580 lbs-ft of torque. Add a Dinan exhaust and it rises to 511 bhp. And yesterday my Dinan rep told me that within a month, Dinan will be offering larger intercoolers for the TTV8 550 which will raise power to over 530 bhp.
But in terms of bang for your buck, the ECU reflash from Dinan raises bhp by 101 and torque by 130 lbs-ft. Cost is $3500.
But if you get that kind of power, you are going to need stiffer springs (Dinan or ACS). The stock sport suspension is way too soft on the F10 550.
For the E60 550 (which has a naturally aspirated 4.8L V8), there is no way using bolt on mods to get a lot of additional power. You would need an SC kit which is big bucks.

What 500HP with a flash? are talkin E60? (so you gain 200HP over OEM 300HP?) did you get hit in the head by a puck or is this more N Y trash talk? I have had no problem smokin several E60 535's over the last few years in my 04 545 + the sound of a V8 with Magnaflow quads with center merge Xpipe ! Awesome no high pressure injection worries or worn turbos to replace. I have enough to worry about with just the valve cover gaskets and cylinder valley pipe! still avg about 17.5 MPG not bad! about 24 to 26 on Hwy, well when no 535's or rice burners are around.

I like the sport package with the 550 over the 535, that was the seller for me. I really didnt care for the V8 but i loved the look of the style 172 wheels, bumpers, side skirts etc... I love my 550i and its a blast to drive, just turn the DTC off and its a beast! It depends on your liking, just test drive both and see which works for you. If you plan on doing mods than the 535 is for you since there are tons of mods out there for the 535.
