All things equal (price, options, mileage, etc) I'll take the V-8 everyday of the week. The 545 and 550s have thier issues in maintenance, but they have nothing compared to the High Pressure Fuel Pump problems of the 535. How many members here have lemoned their cars for that issue?
Nah, save me the headache and gimme the V-8. Hell I have a 530 and I feel like that old commercial: "I coulda had a V-8"

True, early HPFP problems resulted in lemons when BMW didn't have a solution for a reliable fuel pump for N54 motors. I also went thru my FP failure, had it replaced in May 2010 and has been solid since. Bean counters for big corp very quickly realized cheaper to come to resolution than having lemons piled up that will hurt the company's reputation and the bottom line. Big fan of British Top Gear and loved the yahoo article on Hammond on BMW. This has boosted my confidence in doubting the reliability of the brand.

Also, keep in mind I've ran the GIAC tuned since Oct 2009 right into the dealer visit for the FP failure replacement.

I think V8 acceleration is more linear and quieter, I think less jerk, also torque is available from 1,000 rmp, when 535 is just peak around 3500-4000 rmp, before that is slow for initial acceleration. That torque is big fun during autocross. Just try this one time, you will understand where I'm coming from.

It's a Twin Turbo. Add an ECU tune and that beast is pushing 500HP/575TQ!

What 500HP with a flash? are talkin E60? (so you gain 200HP over OEM 300HP?) did you get hit in the head by a puck or is this more N Y trash talk? I have had no problem smokin several E60 535's over the last few years in my 04 545 + the sound of a V8 with Magnaflow quads with center merge Xpipe ! Awesome no high pressure injection worries or worn turbos to replace. I have enough to worry about with just the valve cover gaskets and cylinder valley pipe! still avg about 17.5 MPG not bad! about 24 to 26 on Hwy, well when no 535's or rice burners are around.

No I am not sure how the F10 is pulled into this discussion. F10 550 = V8+TT. Since the discussion is in the E60 part of the forum and started off asking about V6 TT vs V8.. I'll assume we're looking at the E60 models.

There's probably 100 threads on this forum alone discussing the pros and cons of each model, along with some ridiculous third-grade arguments. It's simple.. look at cost and what you want. If you want a V8 and it's in your budget then go for the 550. If you want better fuel economy and are planning to do a tune then get the 535. With a simple tune the 535i will match the HP output of the 550i, but in a lighter car.. do the math. Also, since we're talking E60, if you want AWD that will also take the 550 out of the running.

Hi Guys, first post here. I have a 550 and an S4 and have had many turbo (and nitrous) cars in the past. Tunability of a turbo is better and you can certainly make the power you want with it, but you have to be into that type of thing. The V8 is power and torque out of the box and the sound is hard to beat. If gas mileage is your objective then the turbo 6 is the ticket, if you like to tinker the turbo 6 again is the engine to have. If you want power and sound with no fuss the V8 is the way to go.

Since I have done quite a bit of turbo tuning and am not really interested anymore, the V8 makes more sense for my lifestyle. For me, there is something about the power and torque of a big V8 hitting hard that brings a smile to my face. Just for reference my Talon made nearly 500whp and ran low 11s on street tires, full interior and a/c .

Some days I think I should have gotten a 535 as I have access to a dyno and hoist etc, a good friend of mine is a big Honda tuning company and has a pretty wild shop.
