Trunk won't open with remote or trunk button inside

It might just be a bad switch in the passenger compartment. To check, just lever out the switch and check the operation with a multimeter.
If the switch checks out then you need to check the connection between the actuator and the trunk release assembly. You'll have to remove the tool kit and the trunk lid carpet liner to do so. Once you have the components exposed you can then check for current at the actuator, see if the mechanism is working at all, and if the trunk release button is working.

Need some help. I purchased my 2005 545i a few weeks ago (previously had 2001 330i) The key remote works fine with the door locks, but won't open the trunk. If I hold the button down an extended time it sets off the alarm. Also neither the trunk control above hood latch on kick panel and the switch under the logo button on trunk lid work. When I push either of these I hear a light "click" noise but no action at the trunk latch. I have made sure the trunk lock is vertical and not turned to the right and horizontal. Any ideas??????
Look in your glovebox. There is a trunk lock for valleys. Make sure it's unlocked
