not suggesting here that one should randomly "throw" parts at a problem, but i refer to this as electrical and mechanical related...http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-...or-51247840617

This is my third BMW with this type of trunk actuator (01 X5, 06 330, 08 550) and i have had zero issues with the trunk mechanism releasing by itself.

You can manually lock the truck with your actual key hidden within your FOB. If you do this, you can't pop the trunk, even if you hit the button. At least this will lock it, and give you some peace of mind.

HOLY SH*T! This happened to me too! I thought I must have sat on the key or something, but the key turned out to be on the wall that night!

Here's the other strange thing about that night... To get the last few bags of shopping out the trunk AND shut the boot so I don't have to go back out to lock up, this is what usually I do:

Park up, get out, open the boot with remote AND at the same time, lock the whole car with the remote. When the last few bags in my hand, I shut the lid and look at the turn signals to see if they flash to confirm the boot was shut properly. On this day, when I shut the boot, the lights didn't flash! Confused, I put the bags down and pulled up at the lid, which seemed to be securely shut. I then unlocked and relocked the car to see if it would flash to confirm all doors are shut, which it did, so I went in and didn't think much of it.

The next morning at 5am, I wake up to my neighbour knocking on the door telling me the trunk's open! Confused, I thought maybe because of the shopping in my hands, I couldn't slam the lid with my usual force...
Then I tried to repeat my usual procedure: unlock car, pop open trunk, lock car, shut trunk lid AS LIGHTLY as possible. Did it about 10 times in total, and twice the car didn't flash as it should have done.

Don't know if it's related to how hard you close it or not, and just put it down as a one off problem. Good (and bad) to know other have had the same problem too.

Happened to me, too. Like everyone else, I thought I had accidentally pushed the key fob. I will give this a try though. Thanks for the input.
