My recommendation is the OP take it back to the dealer he bought it from and ask them to make the adjustment; I'm sure they were well aware of this panel problem and were happy to get the car off their lot. Given the issues with leaking trunks and roof drains damaging expensive electronic components under the trunk floor I would treat this panel alignment issue as SERIOUS and get it corrected (professionally) ASAP!

An update...
Took it to BMW Dealer for routine maintenance and had mechanic look at the trunk gap issue. They came back advising me to change out the trunk hinge on the right side at a cost of $300 just for the part. Who knows how much they would charge for labor, and if this is even guaranteed to fix the issue. As others have mentioned, he advised that water may become an problem. I wonder if this is an indication that the hinge that's in there has become warped or bent? Weird. I will be holding off for a few weeks to save up, will update.

As a BMW CPO purchase this is something that should have NEVER made it off the dealer's lot without a repair/adjustment

If you waited too long the dealer may have a solid case that YOU had a wreck and the fix is on YOU!

you can probably fix it by tweaking the hinge.
