My Ride: 2008 M5 -- Exterior: Silverstone, Interior: Black. Fully Loaded. That just about sums it up! :-)

Hi Folks,

I dropped off my E60 for service and was given an E60 (525i) for a loaner. I went to use the remote for the trunk release and Boing!....Man did that trunk pop open fast!

After loading things up I went to reach for the trunk lid and close it. WOW, it took a heck of a lot more force to close the trunk than my E60's trunk! :'(

This now explains all the complaints I heard here on the forum. My trunk lid is no where near as difficult to close. I figured, "Hey, probably just a bunch of weenies that don't have any muscle to close a trunk lid!"

Oh well, I stand corrected.
Even when my E60 was new it was never that tough to close (Different spring rate????).

when i saw the position of my trunk lid, i did not even bother to try to close it using it. I just place my hands on top of it and works like a dream.

Hey i need to open it and close daily it because I like to place my 'mickey mouse' lunch box in the truck!

Really? Awesome! Maybe I can launch a cup of coffee 2 car lengths away instead of just 1 with mine...

I have the M5 trunklid finisher, so my trunk opens more slowly and is easier to close.

If I get bored enough, I'll try to encode the video of the small BMW spokeswoman who whipped the trunk closed with one hand on the BMW DVD I got with my car.

Honestly, it has the same system my old Jetta had - the two hand recesses under the trunk. You put one hand under it, and then whip the lid down in one quick motion. The trunk closes and you don't have to put your hands on the exterior of the car at all.

How do you guys close the trunk?? Push it or Pull it??

There is a grip inside the trunk, I alwasy PULL to cloase the trunk. I don't want to close with my hand touching the paint on the trunk, and leave finger prints on it. It takes few times to know how much force to pull, so you won't close too hard to too light.

Bernard at the ED Center told me pulling on the indents is the best way to close the trunk.
