Found this trick in the manual recently, great for winter! The idea is that if you're waiting somewhere in your car in winter and turn off the ignition, it's getting cold inside quickly. You can specifically use the residual engine heat to warm the interior.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the E60 come fitted with an auxillary heater so you do not take too much heat from the engine when you want to heat up the interior, this I was told, is to prevent your exhaust emmisions increasing, as for optimum emmision control the engine has to run between strict engine temperatures?

Perfect!

I've owned the car for over two years, and now I finally found where they hid the old "REST" button from my e39.

Thanks!

I used this feature a lot last winter. It is illegal in Toronto to idle for more than three minutes, regardless of outside temperature so a residual heat feature is appreciated.
