Default Transmission Solenoid Replacement and Oil Questions

Ok,

So I've purchased the solenoid kit for ZF6HP19, sealing sleeve and trans. adapater plug. My car has 106,000KMs

What else do I need to change out the solenoids

What I have listed is (for extra/might as well)

- Oil pan w/ filter
- ZF lifeguard oil

I've been told I need about 7 litres for this, but I was wondering, what other trans. fluid have people used? I'm assuming if I did a full flush, I could swap in a different/cheaper oil?

Otherwise, I'm looking at the kits online, do I need the gasket for this also? (ZF6HP19) - been told its inbuilt in the pan

Do the other kits for 6hp19/21/26 fit ? Or do I just need specifically 6hp19 kit.

All up this whole thing is going to cost me about 1k, (sigh) as ZF lifeguard here is about 50$ a litre, so I'm trying to get the kit shipped from overseas with 6 bottles and the pan/filter for $350.

Otherwise thinking of shipping over Mercon SP and using this? Would I have to flush or can I simply top off (roughly 5L) with the OEM that's in there (roughly probably 4L left in there)

Gasket should come with the pan.
I am not sure the kits are interchangeable. Unless there is a huge difference in price which will cause you to research further I would by the HP19 kit specific to your car.

Do 12L of fluid. You are putting a lot of money into solenoids and you should start with fresh fluid. After you drop and replace the pan add 6L new. Then in a few hundred miles after you have mixed the fluids well do the other six liters with just a drain and fill.

As long as you have to reset the adaptation (a must when changing the solenoids) I would try the Mercon SP (should be much cheaper than LG6 in AU). Many have posted success with this and I haven't heard any horror stories. And because you are resetting the adaptation, the small difference in the fluid (if there is any) will be negated as the transmission relearns the shift points.

The 19 and 26 are completely different transmissions. Kits are not interchangeable. You need the 19 specific kit.

Gasket is built into the pan, you do not need to buy separately. You need to buy a new mechantronic sealing sleeve if you haven't already. I HIGHLY recommend you replace the bridge seal and the four sealing sleeves that are between the Mechatronic and the transmission casing. You will need the full 7L of replacement fluid. If you have an early build E60, I'd also replace the pan mounting screws. Yes, it's a pricey job, but it's still about one fifth of the cost of a new transmission.

Read through the thread I posted. If you have any questions after, post up and I'll help any way I can.

Good luck with the car.

I would recommend a new pan. You can put the new pan on when buttoning up the trans after replacing the solenoids or do a little extra work and replace the pan before your second fill.

When you replace the solenoids and move things around you are likely to have "floaties" or debris that has been stuck to assemblies now moving in the fluid.

You could change the solenoids, reinstall the old pan and refill, drive a few hundred miles and let the old pan filter catch the bulk of the floaties. Then change to the new pan and do a your final fill.

The filter is integrated into the pan. Unless you have changed your pan/filter assembly very recently, buy a new one.

I can most definitely appreciate wanting to control costs, but keep in the back of your mind that it's over 5 grand for a new gearbox. get the four sealing sleeves that you saw in my post. In the US they were around $20, and the ones that I took out of the car were very worn (shrunken by several millimeters).

GAH! Tried to buy some Mercon SP, buyer won't ship even though adv. that he could. Sigh. I have limited options now..

LIQUI MOLY ATF 1800, apparently equivalent to zf life guard 6? Can't find any proof on this though

or Redline D6, and i asssume a full flush? 12L? :S

Do you have any Hyundai dealers or parts specialists near you? The Genesis Coupe also uses the ZF 6HP19 gearbox, so you should be able to use any Hyundai branded fluid that'll work for that car. Again, I'm in the US so I may be grasping at straws here.

I ended able to get Mercon SP, but it's still in delivery from the US so see if I get it

I've purchased my pan and everything else.

Question, what torque do I do the bolts on the pan and the unit?

It's all in the thread I posted, torque settings too.
