Transmission Slam...how smooth are your shifts?

lemon ur vehicle and get abrand new one with all ur money back that you put on this current vehicle. 3 chances to fix same problem, if they don't then ur car is faulty or some shit like that, idk the details

I get the slam or hard shift in 3 to 4 only while I'm in DS mode. Other gear shifts are smooth. "Manual" works fine. Regular D mode smooth.

Thanks guys, it mostly happens in DS mode for me now, D is fine and shifting myself is fine. Also playing around a bit I found I have a rattle or a grind (probably rattle) at about 2300 rpms. I'm going to bring that up as well when I speak to the dealership's Customer Relations Manager on Monday. Hopefully between that and two techs actually feeling it, it'll be enough to get something done.

I am fully convinced that you can achieve smoother shifts through every gear in manual mode. That's why I am always hanging around in manual mode. When I am in D, the shifts are a little jumpy sometimes but still very smooth with the right throttle input. You get a feel for where the throttle needs to be when you feel the car is about to shift.

My 2009's Step shifts very smoothly with no slam.

DS mode is the sport mode. In this mode, it holds the gears much longer and revs a lot higher. D is the regular mode and upshifts much quicker to maximum fuel economy. D is not for max performance. It makes the 550i Sport feel slow and lazy -- it is a luxury mode.

Yes, as a matter of fact I was told by the dealer's foreman that DS mode will not shift as smooth as the regular D mode. He went on to explain about gear ratio, timing etc, but unfortunately it was all lost on me. All I know is that the tranny has been silky smooth since the replacement and I have no intention of putting it in DS mode and possibly screwing up the smooth shifting in D mode again.
