I'm going to take the SIB to the dealer. In my case, the problem is intermittent which makes a 'drive' with the foreman/chief tech rather limited.... But since the SIB is out, we will see if this makes a difference...

Can someone explain what the SIB does? What's with the change in the idle control????
Mine was also intermittent. In fact, the shop foreman did not duplicate it during the drive, but as soon as I explained the problem and used the word "slam" he said he knew exactly what it was and then confirmed it with some sort of mechanical test.

The dealer was never able to fix it on the 535i, but on the 530 it had it bad and they updated the software and cleared out all the transmission adaptions. It drives totally different now...no slam , the thing down shifts going down hill, hold gears better going up the RPMs, actually has some punch off the line now too.

BIG difference. No slam in 1-2-3 or from dead stop like it did when I got it.

The same thing happened today on my 520d. it's been 3 weeks since i noticed that some torx bolts on the gear oil pan had leak from the atf oil. just a spil. So i had that gear slam at the time the car stopped moving. Not all of the times i stopped but enough to make me wonder what's next. i have 85000 miles about and still haven't changed atf oil. i also tried twice this ( 20 seconds reset trick). Could it be anything wrong when two months ago i changed all by my shelf the vibration damper (pulley) and i had to force a lot to replace it?

A temporary, but unsatisfactory, way to avoid the problem is to shift to DS when stopped if the car is cold.
Any one had any success using this SIB on a 545? According to this SIB it only applies to the N52 and N54 engines under warranty and CPO.

And from what I've been reading this DAMN SLAM applies to nearly all E60! including my N62 545

I'm very interested to here the follow up of OP's situation...
