So I experienced the dreaded slam just like all of us have I'm sure. My SW was updated specifically with respect to the transmission module and lo and behold, the problem went away...or so I thought...
Driving today and come to a stop sign...slow down and come to a complete stop...hit the gas to take off and hear the engine revving (like it's in Neutral), followed by a BAM as it shifts into gear...
My dealer looked into this just recently (this isn't the first time it's happened since the remap) and downloaded all the 'raw' data from the module, said that they weren't able to find anything. I call bullshit...this is the third time it's happened and this can't be good for my transmission...
Any ideas.....

If you manage to fix it, you are in a minority.

very common type of slam. I have it too.
Lately i don't experience it since i got used to the pedal. After a stop sign i only press gas wen i feel the engine is stopped revving (may be o.5 sec after full stop).
If you press gas immediately after stop and the engine is not completely at idle it will shift wrong and you feel this bump. I tried changing software but it doesn't go away completely.

damn....... thought i was the only one with this slam when i had my 545!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how much is it to fix? i think the bushings are dead and need to be replaced. My mechanic said its a common problem on bmw's, and should cost around $300 for labor alone.

Mine has been to the dealer twice for software upgrades that were supposed to take care of this problem. Both times, it worked for about a couple of weeks, then back to the slam. Bottom line is that BMW doesn't really know how to take care of this problem. They won't admit that though.

I have a 530d auto, I was experiencing this slam and thought it was the software issue, after a bit of thrashing over a couple of weeks it went from a slam to also slipping, I managed to kill my torque converter lining. I had the torque converter replaced and now I am left with the software related slam, when slowing to a stop it slams only from 2nd to 1st.
The auto specialist that replaced the torque converter said that as the tranny module had detected a fault it was trying to protect itself which is why I wasnt actually experiencing the software slam, most of the time it wasnt changing into 1st gear when slowing down. He also said that old burnt fluid would give the slamming symptoms as well as sensors failing.

So here's what they did to my tranny:
1. Downloaded the raw data and sent to BMW (from the transmission module); opened PUMA case and they couldn't find the fault in the data that was sent
2. Found the infamous mecahtronic sleeve leak, replaced it (they thought that might be the problem
3. Reset the transmission module (not the 20sec trick, the formal reset so now it's re-learning my driving pattern.
I am still experiencing it though. I've heard that people sometimes get their transmission replaced because this gets annoying. I'm worried even when I start off because it really is loud and quite a bang! I'm at 80k miles with the extended warranty and plan on keeping the car longer. I'm worried this is going to end up killing my transmission down the road.
Thinking of going back to ask them to look at it again. The problem is that it's intermittent...so every time they keep it and test drive it once..it just comes back with a could not duplicate which is pure and utter bullcrap....

Mine only does it when the car is cold. Once I've driven it for a while and it's warmed up, it will not do it.
