Also experienced this problem but again when battery was dying.

New battery solved it all

Very annoying because it always has to happen when I have someone with me in the car and they always ask "how come your car is broken". Embarassing.

I know your event is over, but a good reason to have camera phone or digital camera in car is to take pictures of faults that might later clear so you have proof for dealer.
