trans or vanos noise?

My Ride: 2006 BMW 550i

today i happened to be sitting in the passenger seat while someone else drove. i could hear the sound better. it seems like the sound was coming from behind and below the glove box. wonder what it could be?

I don't mean to bring a forum back from the dead, but here goes.....
I've been hearing/feeling similar noises and shuddering like the previous posts here.
It's like a shudder, or hesitation at 2k rpm's, in 2nd and 3rd gear it seems to show up the most.
Could this be the vanos??
Thanks for the input, i'm hoping that there has been resolution to this issue...

i've determined my noise to be coming from the active rollbar system(which uses the power steering fluid).
the control valve is located just in front of the passenger's feet, behind the wheel well liner of the front right wheel.
dealer told me its normal.
