I would not buy any MB E-class from 2003-2006. They have a SBC braking system. It utilizes a pump to force the brake fluid to the calipers rather than relying on just a brake booster. Downfall is they wipe out the pads very fast, there is a special procedures for brake flushes because the pump must be active, and there actually is a life span on the sbc control unit/pump. The part is like a grand when it goes bad. 2007 was the first year of the W211 E-class that they went back to conventional braking systems.

If money isn't an issue, then it seems the MB is the way to go. You can sugar coat the decision by throwing on a JB3, but it seems like at the higher speeds the 8 cylinders will beat our 6's. Off the line though, the JB3 seems like it'll be alotta fun.
Are you serious? Have you driven a bunch of MB and BMWs? Having driven both, I cant see why anyone would do it unless you are loyal to the brand. BMWs just offers a much better driving experience for the enthusiast.

No, I haven't, but if you think a JB3 will make your car more enjoyable over a 450+ hp and 500+ ft-lb. torque then you're crazy. Again, I said if money wasn't an issue so that he maintenance may be a nuisance but won't leave him broke, then he should consider it. Are those numbers not a "driving experience?"

As they teach us in BMW school, we put driver first and luxury second. Everyone else does exactly the opposite. It's a compelling arguement.

I don't think it is an even trade financially. The E55 is a rocket but do you want an older car that is out of warranty and a king's ransom to fix?

Then again, there are few better stoplight warrior sedans than the E55. Its handling and braking feel has gotten panned in car mags (E63's has been reviewed as a significant improvement in handling and brake feel in the car mags).

But few, if any, sedans today (including the E63) with the exception of the CTS-V have the tractorful of low end torque that the E55 has.

+1, I have driven both and BMW has the upper hand. Funny, a friend of mine gave her MB to her dad when she bought her Jag. At first she was saying that was a big mistake, she loved the MB so much and blah, blah, blah. In addition, she also drives a Z4. Just yesterday she told me that she recently drove her old MB and she can't believe what a bad ride it was. She said that when she owned it, she thought that it was the best car ever, but after riding the Jag and the BMW exclusively for the past few months, she can now tell the difference and she'll never go back to MB.

I've not driven an E55 or E63. I did test drive the E550 along side the 550i. The E550 was boooring. They had an E63 in the showroom. It had little to distinguish it over the E550. Even a $20k interior package didn't do much. I would much prefer an M5 over the E63. Even though I like torque, the M5 just seems the better "sports" sedan.

470 bhp would be sick, I almost bought one. But, like others have said, I've heard stories of $xxxxx repair bills on stupid stuff...

Someone offered me a trade today.. my 535i for his e55, my car has 20k miles his has 30k his is an 04..mine is an 08..... That e55 is NASTY, and a serious rocket!!
anyones opinions?
I have driven my friends E55 and didnt really like its handling as it kept sliding on bends and everytime i put my foot down the wheels kept spinning but the car was still in one place as though the Traction control couldn't keep up with the Troque.

I loved it's power and it is a BEAST especially on a straight line (but the M5 is 100 times better)...but naaah would never buy a Mercedes over a BMW as i have had BAD experience's with all the Mercs i have driven in the past.

I have driven the S500, S63, CL63, SL65, CLK55 etc...but i think there all shyt lol (in case your wondering how i drove all these cars..my friend has a Prestige Car Hiring Company)

I drove the Aston Martin DB9 the other day and a 760 Ac Schnitzer as well but i loved the 760 more then the Aston.

From my opinion i would never cheat on my BMW with any car manufacturer apart from Nissan's Skyline GTR, as i love that car and would cheat on my Bimmer any day

Why would someone want to trade their E55 Mercedes with a 535i BMW????
Answer: BMW's are toooooo good compared to Mercs as Mercs are shyte  (apart from the SLR - only cos its part Mclaren)

Anyways well thats my view of a Merc...
