Did a quick search on this forum on what speed a delimited 550i would get but the results were mixed. Do any of you guys have recent data on what has been achieved, instead of theoreticals?

My Ride: My ex-ride: EU '08 LCI 520dA. Space Grey, Sport Seats in Black Leather/Fabric Anthracite, Sport Steering Wheel, A/C with Extended Features, Hi-Fi Speakers, Cup Holders, Cruise with Braking function, Folding Rear Seats, Xenons, Park Distance Control.
All BMW's are limited to 250 km/h, but some not reach it as mine.
A 550i could top some 280 km/h.
The M5 would top some 320 km/h and in some cases do,
when the limiter is taken off.
When you go up to high speeds, the power needed to increase even 5 km/h is huge.

My car was Steve Dinan's test car for 2 months when he began developing engine management software for the 550i/650i earlier this year. The morning I got my car back, Steve had done some final test runs and got my car up to 175 mph. His reason ... "I just wanted to make sure the limiter's gone."

The speed run wasn't timed. But I do know the stretch of road where Dinan road tests their products where there is a stretch of uninterrupted road (no intersecting streets or stop lights) which stretches for approx. 1 & 1/2 miles. This used to be the old Highway 101, a.k.a. Monterey Highway (to those in-the-know from the Bay Area) which stretches from Morgan Hill to San Jose. I've been on this stretch of road when given a test drive in Dinan's 645Ci ... at 160 mph. With the power these 8 and 10 cylinder BMWs have, 1 & 1/2 miles is enough room to have a short burst of fun!
