Had a similar problem with my e46, the mechanic diagnosed it as a bad (needed a good clean) control body. Hope you get it sorted.

I had this with my 325i, basically the revs drop and rise by themselves (exactly as you describe). I took off my idle control valve and cleaned it out with carb cleaner until the mechanism moved more freely, i put it back and found that the revs where perfect after that. i wonder if your car has one of these?

The only cost was my patience to reach it and a can of carb cleaner + gloves.

its in the stealership right now....as of 2pm today they hadnt even looked at it. Said they would get to it today and hopefully know what the problem was. As far as getting it fixed today, nothing was for sure. Im not to worried about it as long as they figure whatever it is out and get it handled now. Im tired of taking it in and hearing we cant duplicate it. my regular 4yr/50k warranty will be up in a few months so i want to get as much stuff out of the way as i can so it doesnt come out of pocket. I still have the 2yr entended cpo warranty too.

Hope to hear back sometime today.

Hey AWG, isn't it funny how quickly our tastes change? Was looking around for the old "painted caliper" thread and found this in this process...

I remember a few members purchasing their caliper decals from xenonmods.com but then I heard a few bad reviews about them too. So... there ya go.

yea i was going to rock white calipers but at that time i planned on cross drilled/slotted rotors. im keeping it stock now so i dont want it to stand out AS much as a white, blue, red, or yellow caliper would

if i was still doing the cross drilled the calipers would be painted white or red. i think white would be sweeeet but oh well im happy with what i got and trying to save money! black calipers, maybe painted hubs, AND MY FREAKIN WHEELS GOT SHIPPED TODAY WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

update:

got the car back today. talked to the SA on the phone and he said it was a software issue. updated the software and cleaned up the inside (instructed them to not touch the outside)

i havent cold started it yet but i will tomorrow morning so that will be the true test. he says he has seen other 5 series with the same issue and the update corrected the problem.

we'll see i guess.
